Common Course Numbering

Common Course Numbering (CCN) System

The Common Course Numbering (CCN) system is a statewide initiative designed to standardize course numbers across California Community Colleges and make it easier for students to identify comparable courses when transferring between colleges.

69蹤獲 began implementing CCN in Fall 2025 and will continue adding courses to the system over the next several years as part of the statewide implementation.

Students may see both former and new course numbers during the transition period. In most cases, these changes reflect a statewide effort to standardize course numbering across California Community Colleges to make it easier for students to identify comparable courses when transferring between institutions.

A Common Course Number is comprised of four elements:

  • Subject: 4-letter standardized abbreviation to be used across the state
  • Course Type Identifier: All CCN courses are indicated with a C prefix before the number
  • Course Number: Standardized 4-digit course identification.
  • Course Specialty Identifier: System-level suffixes for special courses (e.g. H for Honors)
